FTP and File Up-Loading

  • WS-FTP - Cute-FTP - Fetch, Microsoft FrontPage 98/2000 etc...

    Commonly asked questions.
I uploaded my site but can't see it in the browser?
Our server creates an index.html page when we set you're folder up. make sure your homepage is titled "index.html". If it's index.htm you will not be able to see your uploaded home page. Just rename your file "index.html and reload it. Make sure you also hit reload or refresh in your browser so you can see new changes.

  • Your directory is /web

 CuteFTP" "WS-FTP" "Fetch"
Be aware of the "Directory Structure"

When you log in, you'll see a folder called "web" all by itself in the path of /users/username/web
(do not load your main web site in this folder.)
Go back in the document tree 2 levels and you will then see folders on top of each other called:
logs
users
web
(load your main web site in this "web" folder)

You can also login and type "/web" and that will take you to the main web site folder.

What are the user web folders?
Each person that gets an e-mail account set-up under a domain, will also get their own small web space for publishing to.
Who sets up the user folders? The domain administrator/webmaster has control 24 hours a day through the "Control Panel". For more info on setting up users/e-mail accounts, Click Here
Example: If my domain was "www.mydomain.com"  and I had 3 employees that I wanted to set e-mail up for, ted@mydomain.com  - mary@mydomain.com - ceo@mydomain.com - , Each user would have a web page located at

user web addresses

user e-mail addresses usernames
www.mydomain.com/~ted ted@mydomain.com ted
www.mydomain.com/~mary mary@mydomain.com mary
www.mydomain.com/~ceo ceo@mydomain.com ceo
  • Microsoft FrontPage 98/2000 (make sure you have FrontPage extensions installed!)
Publishing your web site with MS FrontPage is just fine. However, if you decide to start uploading from an FTP client like WS-FTP after you have already been publishing with MS FP, you will corrupt your folder and it will need to be re-set. There is also the possibility of having to remove all of your web site content to reactivate the extensions.

MS FrontPage 98

Start FrontPage Publisher:
2.Specify the location to which you want to publish your FrontPage web: (www.yourdomain.com)
3. FTP Server Name (www.yourdomain.com)
4. Directory Path: (Leave Empty). When you start publishing, FrontPage will automatically know where to load the pages.
5. Put in your "username" and "password" then click finish and you will be uploading your web site.
